The Science of Felt

  Recently, a number of anglers have questioned why felt soles have become the focus of efforts to reduce the spread of invasive species. They argue that there is no science to support a focus on felt and some maintain there is no proof that anglers are spreading invasives. To help eliminate confusion the Center for Aquatic Nuisance Species has issued a new report that explains the scientific data that shows why felt is a special problem.  Read More


New Mexico Considers Felt Sole Ban

  The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has proposed banning the use of felt soled waders on all public waters statewide beginning April 1, 2011. In early October the Department announced they were taking comment on a number of proposed rule changes including the felt sole ban.  Read More

Experts worried about low bull trout numbers in Swan River drainage

  Montana's Swan River has always been a major stronghold for the native bull tout, a native species that has declined through much of it's range. owever, biologists are now concerned that invasive lake trout are seriously impacting the once strong Swan River population. Read More

Great Lakes Threatened by Asian Carp

   Perhaps the greatest threat from aquatic invasive species in the US is the potential introduction of Asian carp to the Great Lakes. We've written about this problem in a number of past issues and for anyone living near the Great Lakes this story has been much in the news. Read More

   In an effort to spread the word of Inspect, Clean and Dry,  Orvis has prepared a short video that talks about felt free boots and the methods that all anglers must follow to reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species. Read More
